A Memorable Stay at Kimpton Carlyle Hotel Dupont Circle

September 19, 2017

It was a crisp early Thursday morning, a fortnight ago, when we bid a temporary adieu to our hometown of Dallas, TX. Armed with luggage bursting at the seams, and hearts filled with excitement, we ascended into the skies to a getaway that had been months in the making.  Our in-flight activities included multiple episodes of watch-glancing to gauge how much more time there was before our flight would land.  After what seemed like decades, but was really only approximately three hours, we jetted into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Our excitement knew no bounds! We were eager to get down to the business of settling into what would be our new city for a few days. We glided through the airport terminals, navigating our way to where our rental car was waiting to be claimed. On a side note, how awesome is it to accumulate enough credit card reward points to pay for a rental car!  *fist pump*

We made our way to our new home for the next few days, laden with excitement and anticipation about what lay ahead. After a relatively short drive from the airport, we pulled into the beautiful tree-lined New Hampshire Avenue  NW in Washington, DC and waltzed into the majestic hotel.  We had arrived at the Carlyle at Dupont Circle, which is part of the Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants brand.  Our first impression of the hotel was definitely memorable; it was love at first sight! The Carlyle is the perfect embodiment of sophistication, all while still being warm and inviting.

From the outset, our experience was second to none. We were welcomed with genuine smiles and graciously ushered into the lobby. Given our 10 am arrival, we anticipated a long wait time for room availability; however, much to our delight, the lovely front desk staff Latoya went out of her way to ensure our check-in time would be much sooner. Major brownie points were earned!

Stunning watches displayed in the hotel’s lobby.

To pass time, pending our hotel check-in, we left The Carlyle to embark on a mini sightseeing tour. We were pleased to discover that the hotel is a short distance away from local attractions, including the famous Dupont Circle.  In awe, we took in all the charming sights and sounds surrounding us.  Wanting to capitalize on the early hotel check-in time, we wrapped up our brief explorer’s session and hurried back to the hotel, yearning to officially begin our Carlyle experience.

Upon our return to The Carlyle, the royal treatment continued. From the get-go, we could already tell that we were in for an unforgettable adventure! The hotel has a ‘home away from home’ appeal, even with its upscale vibe–this is an element that we absolutely loved. The ‘second-home’ characteristic can be attributed to the layout, decor,  ambiance and most important- the staff. The hotel staff were delightful and eager to go beyond the call of duty to ensure that we had a positively memorable experience. Case in point: a smiling hotel staff member presented us with a handwritten welcome note, a fruit plate and a bottle of wine. Can you say, wow!  We were impressed by the gesture and the attention to intricate details.

Full disclosure: all the staff won our hearts; however, we would like to specifically acknowledge Jessica, Michael, and Latoya of guest services for their dedication to ensuring we had an exceptional experience. We were touched by their genuine display of hospitality.

We would be remiss if we failed to mention the convenient valet service at the hotel. You may or may not be aware of the fact that parking in Washington DC can be scarce, expensive, or both.  Utilizing the valet service saved us the hustle of searching far and wide for parking, and forking out a sizeable sum in the process.

Back to the topic of decor, one can tell that intentional thought was put into creating a space of serenity. Throughout the hotel, the decor was the perfect mix of minimalistic designs, abstract pieces, and bursts of vibrant colors. We took a particular liking to the retro-infused statement style pieces located throughout the hotel. A rotary phone calling our name to use it? Don’t mind if we do?

The hotel room was spacious, bright and airy, and with furniture and accents that were as stunning as they were comfortable. The room featured a lounge area, complete with a full-size couch, and coffee table. Did we mention the hotel felt like home? Oh, yes, we did!

The bathroom was another major selling point. Everything from the high-end, full-size toiletries to the walk-in shower were a win in our books. Also, the powder room nook within the bathroom was unique and was definitely a nice touch. We are all for getting ready while comfortably seated.

Additional amenities within the room included: luxurious frette linens, yoga mats, robes, an umbrella, a dedicated kitchenette area with snacks (available for purchase), a refrigerator (stocked with drinks for purchase), a k-cup coffee maker, a large flat screen television, and the option to dine in if you so please.

We were not able to fit in any workout time during our stay; however, if we did, we would have made full use of the hotel’s fitness center. Located in the basement level of the hotel, it is open 24-hours a day and is fully loaded with exercise machines and a yoga studio.

Fun fact: Remember that the Carlyle provides yoga mats for hotel guests. Score!

Conveniently located on the lobby level of the hotel is an in-house restaurant that is worth writing home about, The Riggsby is a renowned restaurant manned by Chef Michael Schlow who stirs up a delectable array of dishes. The food is finger-licking good, and the ambiance is retro flair meets contemporary sophistication. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Additional hotel amenities include the following:
  • Hosted Evening Wine Hour
  • Onsite 24-Hour Fitness Center
  • Kitchenettes Available
  • In-room Spa Services
  • Tesla + electric car charging stations
  • Valet Parking
  • Complimentary coffee and tea service
  • Loaner PUBLIC bikes
  • Pet Amenities

The following are local attractions in close proximity to the hotel:
