A Tale of Pumpkin Spicy Boots

November 10, 2017

Autumn is the season for all things pumpkin spice! Let it be known that this is not limited to the highly anticipated pumpkin spice latte. I personally love all things sugar and pumpkin spice and all things nice! Today’s look was inspired by my love for the aforementioned. I tend to create outfits centered around a primary piece; this time around, I chose a pair of over the knee, almost- pumpkin colored boots. This spicy and sassy pair are on my current favorite list. Santa, if you’re reading this, an additional pair, or ten, in different colors would make for perfect Christmas gifts. I wear a US 9. No pressure. 😉

Now back to the finger-snapping good boots…

The block heels make for a comfortable walking experience. I can’t tell you how many pairs of shoes I’ve bought in the past that were cute but abused my feet terribly! Thankfully, that’s not a concern with these beauties. The boots are made of a soft, suede-like fabric that is non-restrictive. There are drawstrings at the back for customization purposes, allowing for a perfect fit for a wide range of calf sizes.

I’ll admit that I have had my reservations in the past about wearing over the knee heeled boots. At the risk of looking like a ‘street walker’, I steered away from the look. Until one day, after eons of research and analysis, I realized that it is not a thin line between tacky and classy after all.  It all depends on what outfit you choose to pair your over the knee boots with. With the right combination, you can pull off a chic and polished look.

When deciding what outfit to pair the boots with, I knew I wanted to include denim in some capacity. My closet is overflowing with dark denim, therefore, I could have opted for that look; however, I wanted as much color contrast between my jeans and my boots as I could get. Subsequently, I opted for a pair of medium wash blue, high waist jeans. I know we’ve talked about this before; however, let me reiterate: Ladies, high waist jeans are our best friends! They are perfect for creating the highly coveted hourglass shape. They cinch your waist creating a perfect waist to hip ratio. If you’re not on board the high waist train, I suggest you hop on ASAP!

I chose a sky-blue cotton button down shirt to complement the blue denim. You cannot go wrong with a perfectly fitted button-down shirt. It just pulls your whole look together in an effortlessly sophisticated manner. I threw on a black, tailored blazer to complete the look. As a self-proclaimed number one lover of blazers, it was almost obvious that a blazer would feature in my outfit choice. Speaking of blazers, we may be decades past the ‘power shoulder pad blazer’ days; however, the right tailored blazer, sans shoulder pads,  can still exude the same sense of powerful style presence the blazers of yesteryear did.

Style Tip: If you’re wearing a button-down shirt, to deal with pesky gaping spaces between buttons, and to prevent unwanted peep shows, use double-sided tape.

I wear hats all year round; however, more so in the colder months. I’m all for keeping my head warm, all while still looking stylish. This particular wide-brim felt fedora hat has an adjustable strap within, making for a one-size fits all feature. I kept my accessories simple, opting only for a gold bracelet and classic gold watch. Anything more than that would have drawn attention away from the rest of the outfit.

This is an outfit that can be worn to a wide array of places. If your work dress code is not restrictive, this is definitely a look you can wear to work on casual Friday without raising questionable eyebrows. Additionally, you can wear it to brunch, to a networking event, to a casual date night, to a daytime meetup with friends etc. It’s a sophisticated look that will be an attention grabber regardless of where you go.

Versatility is key in regards to style choices. I endeavor to stretch my outfits as much as I can by choosing base pieces that I can create several looks from. Each item of this outfit is a multi-purpose piece that can be styled in a myriad of ways. Stay tuned for more styling options in future posts. This outfit looks very nice on you. I’d prefer the boots to be under the knee for myself though.
