Afrostylicity Is One Year Old!

May 11, 2017

Oh, my days! I can barely believe a whole year has elapsed since I launched Afrostylicity! It seems like it’s been approximately 5.37 minutes since my very first post. Where has time gone? I remember feeling extremely nervous about sharing my blog with the world. What will people think? What if nobody likes it? What if blah blah blah…Finally, I shut down that pesky doubting voice, and chose there and then not to simmer in the toxic brew of negative thinking. Needless to say, I’m elated I chose to follow the path of faith and walk into fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a blogger.

It has been one heck of a year! That’s actually an understatement. Let me rephrase that- this first year as a blogger completely blew my socks off! Never in a million years would I have envisioned Afrostylicity taking off and picking up steam as much as it has. It has been a year of exponential personal and brand growth, and the privilege of working with several renowned brands. In fact, my first sponsored post was within days of Afrostylicity’s launch! I mean who would have thought? I continue to be amazed by the opportunities that are made possible due to the power of social media.

Now for the most important part of my little anniversary speech- you! I could not have been able to hit the milestones I have if it were not for your constant support. You, my dear reader, are a vital component of this success story. You have been the air beneath my wings, propelling Afrostylicity to greater heights. I am eternally grateful for your unwavering support. There are not enough words in my vocabulary that can aptly describe my level of gratitude.  Thank you! I’m forever indebted to you.

What’s next for Afrostylicity? There is no limit to growth, I’ll say.   I intend to continue to completely immerse myself into the joy of blogging and providing you with content that is enjoyable and useful. There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of knowing that I helped you score some amazing deals. There will be more fashion, lifestyle, DIY, travel, and whatever else the spirit imparts in me to share with you all. I’m looking forward to taking this ride with you all on board.

Now that the speech session is over…

What’s an Afrostylicity post without style, yes? This week’s outfit is actually one I wore on Valentine’s Day; however, there is no better time than this to share this “season of love” inspired look with you all.  This gorgeous white, midi-dress is one I can foresee myself wearing for seasons to come. I love the simplicity but at the same time sophistication, it emits. Additionally, white is one of my favorite outfit color choices. It’s clean and emits a chic, well-put-together vibe that I absolutely adore.

I’m a fun of fur- faux fur actually- and I typically limit my wearing of it to the cooler months. I mean, how could I possibly survive donning a fur scarf in the middle of our 300 degrees Texas summer heat waves. *giggles* Even classic styles have their specific seasons, yes? In my humble opinion, a pop of fur adds an air of sophistication to any outfit. When I am unable to don fur scarves or stoles due to warmer weather, I resort to prancing around with fur clutches. I can get away with those, even in warmer months, But I digress…

This dress from LinkShe stole my heart, especially so because of the button details on the shoulder, and on the side running down to the hem. I’m definitely a sucker for intricate details. The fabric is lightweight, comfortable, and has a good amount of stretch to it.  If you’re looking for a tighter fit, you can possibly get away with going a size down; however, do not quote me on that lol.  I’d recommend paying close attention to the size chart and choosing the best option based on your unique body proportions.

For shoes, I opted for classic red pumps to complete the sassy, sophisticated vibe I was going for. I kept my jewelry simple, opting for a classic leather strap watch, and a gold cuff bracelet. This is an outfit that is so easy to put together and is guaranteed to turn heads.   It’s a ‘dressy” frock, therefore it is one of those that I will always wear with heels. Any other shoe option would be comparable to wearing an evening gown with sneakers- it would look pretty bizarre. That being said, the dress still offers versatility as far as where it can be worn to. Church, work (perhaps throw on a tailored blazer), brunch, party…Your options are countless.

Now the fun part- you can finally find out where you can get your own! Get excited! lol
