Authentically Ethnic

August 10, 2016

This week I’ve chosen to stay behind the scenes, and let this breathtaking piece of art take center stage. Before we get started, can I just share my elevator speech on the overwhelming sense of joy that envelops me when I see ethnic prints being embraced by an increasing number of citizens of this globe! Ethnic prints, in all their vibrant glory have taken the world by storm! Elation does not even begin to describe how I feel about this colorful global dominance. *fist pump*

Now that the foundation has been laid, let’s build the rest of this tell-all session, why don’t we. Let me just put it out there that I’m a bag lady, and I’m not ashamed of it. I have a section of my closet space dedicated to all manner of bags from totes to clutch bags, and everything in between. I tend to gravitate towards unique pieces that will stand the test of time. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not immune to the trends bandwagon; however, I prefer to opt for classic pieces that will reign supreme far beyond any fashion trend’s limited lifespan. So in as much as the dashiki is a trend currently, I for one have always incorporated African/ethnic prints into my style, and that won’t change in the foreseeable future.

In case you haven’t realized yet, I LOVE bright, bold colors!  I love the mix of colors on this clutch bag- the color combination is right up my alley. Speaking of preferences, being the self-proclaimed mini-hoarder that I am, I need quite a bit of bag space for my essentials that include everything but the kitchen sink. Thankfully this clutch bag has two zippered compartments that are more spacious than they appear to be at first glance.  I was able to fit a small bottle of hand lotion, 2 tubes of lipstick, I couldn’t pick just one-decisions, decisions  a small can of deodorant, a pocket-sized mirror, and a few other feminine essentials- at the risk of teetering near the TMI end of the spectrum, I will refrain from divulging any further details. *chuckle*  Long story short- it is a roomy clutch bag!

The only thing I wish it had is a smaller zippered section within one of the compartments to store cash/credit or debit cards/driver’s license etc. It was a simple enough issue to solve though. I stored the aforementioned in a small wallet and avoided accidentally dropping my debit card and drivers license as I reached into the bag, losing them, and setting myself up for a massive bank account wipe-out and identity theft. See, peace of mind, and the world didn’t have to deal with a frantic episode from yours truly.

I love that this beauty’s material will be easy to maintain. If it gathers any dirt, I will be able to spot clean it with some soapy water, let it air dry, and voila- as good as new! Also, to add to my list of how much I love this clutch, I can pair it with a wide array of outfits. I wore it with a black jumpsuit as pictured, and kept my accessories simple, choosing to only don a simple gold cuff bracelet. I wanted the clutch to be the golden child and command all warranted attention. I love that I can pair it with a dressed-up or casual outfit, depending on what side of the bed I wake up on lol. Real talk, think a casual summer outfit, or a chic evening ensemble. I would  however recommend pairing it with a one-toned outfit, or rather a non-print outfit, just so the clutch bag and the outfit are not fist fighting for attention.
