It may come as no surprise to you that bodysuits are all the rage this season– just as they were in the mid-90’s. I’m fascinated by how trends are reinvented, repackaged and make a comeback, disguised as a ‘new’ trend. If I were a gambler, I would bet you a whole chunk of change that 20 or so years from now, the very styles we are currently sporting will reappear. Riddle me this: Who exactly sits on the “trend determination committee?” Where do I sign up for that position? There are certain trends from yesteryear that I’d like to make sure never see the light of day again. *chuckle*
I’ll openly admit that I promptly marched to my browser to order a bodysuit or ten when they made a comeback last year. The main selling point for me is the sleek, put-together silhouette you can acquire in a bodysuit, that not even the most well-ironed, tucked in shirt can accomplish. With a bodysuit, you’re assured of a polished look, without having to deal with unraveled shirt tails, peeking out from the back of your skirt/pants etc.
This season, I am completely enamored by tropical prints. Their recent influx has been met with a whirlwind of pleasant emotions on my part. I literally squealed in delight when I locked eyes with this tropical print bodysuit on the Shein website; It was love at first scroll! The green and white tones mesh well together, and the flounce detail along the shoulder area gives off a fun, flirty vibe. *insert shimmy here* Might I add that the colors make for easy pairing with everything from black and blues to a host of other hues. Plus, the bodysuit has three snap on clips at the bottom, making for easy breezy bathroom runs. There’s nothing as frustrating as fumbling to get out of an outfit in time when mother nature calls. That’s one of the reasons I have a love-hate relationship with rompers. But I digress…
The recurring theme in all posts around these Afrostylicity parts is versatility. Spell it with me- V.E.R.S.A.T.I.L.I.T.Y! Hands up if you love being able to create an infinite number of looks with a single primary piece. You see, I am a sucker for clothing pieces I know I can get a lot of wear out of due to their never-ending styling possibilities. This bodysuit is one such piece that can be paired with so many current occupants of my closet. Future styling possibilities include shorts, pencil skirts, A-line skirts, colored denim or slacks. Trust me, there are plenty more where those options came from- creativity is key.
This time around, I chose to pair the bodysuit with white denim. It is bright white bottoms season; therefore, suffice to say that I had to indulge in the snow white summer style challenge. I was going for a crisp, clean look; therefore, I chose this particular pair of straight leg jeans because of the tailored cut.
I kept my hat, shoes and watch skin-toned, so as not to take away from the excitement of the bodysuit and jeans combo. The basket-shaped purse, with a gold chain strap, was believe it or not…*insert dramatic pause here*- THRIFTED! Yes, I said it- I’m a thrifter and I’m proud of it too! I love thrift stores because of the unpredictability that lies within. You never truly know what you will emerge with! If I began to tell you how many treasures I have unearthed at thrift stores over the years, you would be shell shocked, and possibly be here all day as I narrate my thrift-venture tales. Let’s save that storytelling session for another day, why don’t we.
Back to the narrative at hand…
These chocolate, sling-back heels are one of my favorites because they completely envelop my feet, making for oh, so comfortable strutting sessions. These are heels I can literally wear all day without any complaints from my feet. I topped off the look with a brown fedora hat that I purchased at a street corner while in Mexico earlier this year.
This is an easy peasy look to create, but one that is sure to turn heads. Say yes to the bodysuit! *Pentecostal hand wave*
Adorned with this tropical print, you’ll be sure to leave a style footprint.
There is no substitute, for the allure of this bodysuit!
So go on, recreate the look. You know you want to. 🙂
