Well hello there! That title sure had you scurrying to meet my ‘twin’ didn’t it? *chuckle* The title might be a little misleading. Well not really. It’s not often that you find a an article of clothing that looks like you, now is it? Well, I beat the odds and found a tee with an image that bears an uncanny resemblance to me lol. But perhaps a good place to start off this story would be the beginning…
Once upon a time there lived a young woman who only wore tees when she was cleaning her house, or sweating it out at the gym. You see, she had always thought tees were too casual for her rather preppy style. However, one day she made an exception to her self-imposed rule when she spotted a unique tee design. She figured out a way to ‘dress the tee up’ and made it work for her. From that day onward she incorporated tees into her style, and lived happily ever after.
If you haven’t figured it out already, the young woman is me lol. I’ve learned that the secret to ‘dressing up’ tees is in what I pair them with. In a previous blog post I paired an Afrostylicity (no shame in my self-promotion game *giggle*) tee with an A-line faux leather skirt for an overall casual-chic look.
Before I delve into this week’s look, let me take the time to acknowledge the awesomeness that was the package from Afrofanatic (AFFA). I’m a sucker for details, so right off the bat I could tell that a lot of thought and effort had been put into the packaging. In a perfect world I would have saved the package for a virtual show and tell session, but the way my excitement level was set up, I ripped it open within milliseconds like a 2.5 year old toddler on Christmas morning. I was eager to get my hands on the goodies within! To appease inquiring minds(
you know you want to know the details), I’ll do my best to paint a mental picture of the greatness that the packaging was. Long story short, it was a lightweight brown bag, complete with the AFFA brand logo on the face side, and a piece of ankara fabric intricately fashioned into a handle. Too legit!
Permission granted to talk about what lay within the bag, yes? There were a few other items; however, for the purpose of this post, I’ll focus on the Misuli Tee. Let me just say that I was immediately struck by the high quality cotton material it’s made of. It’s definitely not the type that will stretch out to three times it’s size after a couple of runs in the wash. Also, the ink quality on the print is top-notch, so I can relax knowing that it won’t fade and lose it’s luster over time. To top it all off, the tag on the shirt has a personal touch with a”thank you for your support” message. How sweet is that? Now can we talk about the creative genius that is the letters AFFA fashioned into a pair of glasses. And that the afro comb has an afro! Too fresh!
It’s been a few days since I received my Misuli (which by the way means muscle in Swahili) tee, and I can’t begin to describe how excited I’ve been about showcasing it to the world! I chose to ‘look like’ my tee (
maybe it chose to look like me?) by donning a pair of oversize (non-prescription) glasses, and a black felt wide brim hat. I then tossed on a pair of skinny black jeans, a bright yellow blazer, a pair of brown oxfords, and a classic gold watch. Voila -tres chic! This is a nerdy-chic outfit that can be worn to work on casual Friday, out to lunch/brunch with friends, out on a casual date…endless options await. In the future I’ll pair the tee with a pair of shorts, or a skirt. I can’t wait to experiment with different looks! I tell you, the style world is my oyster. Watch this space! well not this exact space but the next blog posts, but you catch my drift.
Just look at the details on this baby!
I know you’re eager to get your hands on one of these beauties, yes? It’s easy, really. Let’s take a walk over to Afrofanatic’s virtual stomping grounds where you can purchase your very own tee (no sharing allowed lol). Fun fact: you can choose from a variety of colors if white isn’t your cup of tea. Also, there are a ton of other amazing items for purchase! You know you want to be a part of the nerdy-chic crew. Admit it! Now go forth and be dapper. 🙂
