The holidays are right around the corner, and with that comes the much anticipated holiday party season. It is such an exciting time of the year! Yes, the weather pales in comparison to warm toasty summer weather; however, the overall merrymaking vibe of the holiday season more than makes up for it. I associate this time of the year with the colors green, red and gold. Christmas trees are green, Santa is red, and gifts are gold lol. No, seriously though, those are the main colors I think of when deciding on what holiday party outfits to don. As always, I prefer to stand out from the crowd as opposed to blending in; therefore, my outfit choices speak to this.
In the spirit of experimenting with styles, I made the executive decision to pair velvet, leather, gold, and sassy red for an ultimate holiday look. While this may not be a traditional holiday party outfit, it is sure to turn heads and be a source of compliments galore. Uniqueness for the win!
Speaking of leather, given the fact that I live in a state known for fiery hot summers, Fall and Winter are the only seasons of the year when I can be decked out in leather. So believe me when I tell you it is currently a leather release party in my closet. Leather (real and faux) pants, skirts, leggings, jackets, you name it! Paired with the right pieces, a leather skirt or pants/leggings can look quite posh. Leather jackets are also a current staple in my closet; however, it goes without saying that they are significantly easier to style. Styling any other leather clothing piece requires a tad more creativity.
The cut and fit of this faux leather pencil skirt were a major selling point for me. It’s figure-hugging without being restrictive. You can never go wrong with a well-fitted pencil skirt, as they give off an effortlessly classy vibe. The length of this particular skirt is perfect; it is sultry without going overboard. It’s a skirt that offers a ton of versatility, and as such can be styled in a host of ways. For a classic put together look, pair it with a classic white button-down shirt, and throw on a blazer for a preppy look. For a spicier look, pair it with a sleeveless top or an off the shoulder/Bardot top.
Style Tip: If a more casual look is your style goal, choose an A-line leather skirt. This would also be a versatile styling piece e.g. paired with a long-sleeved denim shirt and a pair of booties.
With this particular outfit choice, I opted for a velvet top. Velvet is currently high on the style trends list, with everyone and their grandmother obsessed with the fabric. As an avid fan of thrift store treasures, I’ve noticed that even they have a recent influx of all things velvet. Pray, tell where they were hoarding said pieces all this time? Did they have a vault of velvet items just waiting for the perfect time to be released into the style wild? Anyway I digress, long story short- I love velvet! Let it be known that I was a fan long before the bandwagoners hopped on. I remember as a child, there were many a Christmas season when I was decked out in burgundy or green velvet. My Mom had entirely too much fun picking out my outfits lol. As an adult, velvet has a unique element of sophistication that I am completely drawn to. It speaks to royalty on a subliminal level.
The long sleeves of this particular velvet top are perfect for this cooler weather. I’m all for still being stylish while staying warm. The fit is perfect as well, allowing for seamless meshing while tucked into the fabulous leather skirt. The stars were in alignment when this marrying of style pieces was undertaken. *chuckle*
For footwear, I slipped into a pair of hot red beauties for an extra dose of holiday cheer. The vibrant color in combination with the pointed-toe, stiletto heel aspect adds a whole load of finger snapping va-va-voom. Surprisingly, these are one of my most comfortable pairs of heels. Let the feet say amen!
It is not a secret that I’m an ultimate fan of statement belts; they add an additional element of structure to an outfit. I particularly have an affinity for gold details on belts. This particular belt has been a repeat offender, won more times than I care to count. Rightfully so- it is absolutely stunning. The chain link details give an edgy but classy feel to the overall outfit.
Gold and black are in my opinion one of the best color combinations known to man. Classic black paired with classy gold equals a match made in style nirvana. The gold accessories I chose made the outfit pop to the 100th power. Both the watch and bracelet are eye-catching and exude regality.
Besides a holiday party, this is an outfit that can be worn on a night out with friends, out to a classy dinner, and pretty much to any sophisticated environment. It is a cosmopolitan look, therefore it would be a too dressy for a casual event, and too spicy for a regular work day. Imagine walking into your corporate work environment in this outfit- lol. That is not a good idea unless you are wearing it to the annual office party! 😀
