Presenting Tanglewood Episode II… (Here is Episode I)
I woke up at the crack of dawn and promptly marched to the gym. Yes, yes, I know I was on vacation; however, I feel guilty when I don’t exercise. I was a tad disappointed by the machines, as some were not in working order. Tanglewood, please update your gym. But then again, most people don’t work out while on vacation, so I’ll let that slide. I worked out for approximately an hour, then pranced back to the room to prep for day two of tour de exploration.
Can we talk about the wide selection of treats that was the buffet style breakfast! I was spoiled for choice. There was everything from mini-muffins, to pancakes, to waffles, to sausage, bacon, oatmeal, eggs, potatoes… I could go on for days. It was a spread fit for royalty! Not only was the food easy on the eyes, it was finger-licking tasty as well. I pounced on my full to the brim plate and pretty much inhaled every single morsel. It’s a good thing I had worked out earlier that day- my body was grateful for the head start on calorie burning.
After breakfast, we strolled to the hotel tower to take in the view of the lake by daylight. Interesting enough I experienced no fear the previous night when climbing up the spiraling stairs. Perhaps because I had ascended in dim lighting, therefore, it wasn’t too obvious just how high up I was heading. Well, that season was over. The brief episode of boldness was pushed to the curb and my fear of heights took the front seat. Let me tell you how I felt like my heart was going to somersault out of my chest and into the lake. I was petrified! Despite this, by nothing short of a miracle, I was able to get to the top of the tower. I must say, the view was well worth it. I stood there for a while, in awe, all the while marveling at the splendor beyond.
What goes up, must come down, yes? And so it was. I began my painfully slow descent down the stairs. I imagined a swoosh of air pushing me through the spaces between the stairs. I imagined myself grasping the guard rails, trying to hoist myself back to safety. I imagine what seemed like 2, 356,097 scenarios in the period it took me to waddle down those stairs. Overactive imagination? Yes indeed! But I was perfectly fine spending the rest of our time at the tower’s lower level.
We later made our way out of the tower and headed to the casual dining area by the pool for an early lunch. I ordered a mouthwatering beef flatbread platter. Did I mention that their serving sizes are generous, to say the least? They definitely offer more bang for your buck.
After lunch, we ventured out of the resort and headed to the nearby marina. It was a short enough drive, taking approximately five minutes. Our sedan looked out of placed beside all the trucks/ SUVs hauling boats. Once again, let me mention how spectacular the view of the lake was. You can’t blame us for taking 1,000 too many photos now, can you? I had hoped we would be able to go on a boat tour; however, we hadn’t made reservations in advance. Fear not- we made do with the breathtaking view.
After taking in sights and sounds to our hearts’ content, we drove back to the resort and spent the rest of the day lounging by the pool. It was Labor day weekend so the resort was chock-full of activities. I love the fact that the grounds at Tanglewood are expansive, allowing for large groups of people to coexist without feeling overcrowded. We didn’t have to fight for leg room, nor did we have to elbow anyone out of the way lol.
The background music courtesy of a DJ who doubled as a singer struck a chord with me. He belted out a classic election of love ballads, and I found myself sashaying as his baritone seemed to bring words to life. Day two was definitely well spent.
We checked out of the resort on day three- Labor Day, much to my dismay. I wasn’t ready to leave this mini paradise! The weekend had gone by entirely too fast for my liking. All in all, it may have been a short stay, but it was worth every penny spent. If you’re ever in the Dallas, TZ or Durant, OK area, I’d recommend you make the short drive out to Tanglewood Resort. The next time I make my way out there, I’ll opt for one of the tower rooms for an uninterrupted view of the lake. Please note that the resort is not limited to hotel rooms; there are villas within the property as well. So if you’re traveling with a large party and need more space, renting one of the villas is a viable option.
Friendly staff, beautiful resort, spectacular views of the lake, sumptuous meals. What more could I ask for? Dear Tanglewood Resort, I will be back.
