Hey, Y’all! (Are you even Texan if you don’t say Y’all? *chuckles) Long time no post. 2019 has taken off on a wanderlust note, and we couldn’t be happier! We kicked the year off with a recent staycation at the iconic The Joule Dallas hotel. Set in the heart of Dallas off Main Street, the 1920’s renovated hotel is strategically positioned near some of the city’s landmarks. It is the perfect vantage point to view the best our metropolitan city has to offer. Notable attractions in close proximity to the hotel include the renowned Dallas Arts District and the historic Neiman Marcus building, which is the corporate headquarters and flagship Neiman Marcus store.
The hotel’s ambiance is an unexpected but delightful marrying of luxury and welcoming charm. From the moment we set foot on the property, the staff took it upon themselves to ensure that our stay was not only comfortable but also chock-full of pleasant experiences. We ushered into the Joule experience with glasses of complimentary champagne as we waited to be checked in. We raised our flutes in the air and toasted to what we already knew would be a phenomenal experience.
The hotel boasts a wide array of room options to include everything from standard sized rooms to all-imposing loft suites. We were impressed by the variety, and the effort to meet customer’s unique accommodation needs. We stayed in a deluxe room and we were quite impressed by how spacious it was. Don’t even get us started on the breathtaking view of the Dallas landscape from the room. We even had an unobstructed view of the famous Dallas eyeball. Umm, can you even say you’ve been to Dallas if you haven’t locked eyes with it? We think not! *giggles*
The room had the usual hotel amenities (television, refrigerator, bathrobes, snack bar)etc, but they also had some that were the exception to the norm like a tablet in each room. The modern style bathroom was a major win in our books, given the Jack and Jill design, complete with stainless steel sinks. We were also sold on the waterfall shower with multiple settings, perfect for creating a spa-like experience.
There was a designated lounge area in the room, complete with a comfortable couch and coffee table. It was an ideal nook to curl up with a good book. We did not feel inclined to work during our staycation; however, we had a desk and chair available in the room if we chose to.
Upon exploration of the rest of the hotel, we were drawn to the unique decor and the awe-inspiring artwork displayed throughout the property. We felt like we had access to a one-of-a-kind art gallery. It was truly a sight for sore eyes!
We worked up quite an appetite from exploring the hotel, so we opted to patronize one of the hotel’s on-site restaurants. Americano, a casual Italian restaurant would be our inaugural Joule dining experience. The decor was vibrant and happiness-inducing, and the atmosphere was lively with an upbeat House music playlist to boot. Guests have a choice of either sitting inside the restaurant or outside on the patio. Given the rather frigid temperature, we opted for the former. The menu offers a pretty decent variety of meal options. After much deliberation, we went with the calamari as an appetizer, and salmon as the main course- both were finger licking good!
Besides Americano, The Joule boasts a host of other dining/bar options on site. CBD Provisions is a restaurant that celebrates Texas culinary traditions. Midnight Rambler is a bar with a cocktail menu that is second to none. The Lobby Bar has a relaxing vibe and is popular among locals. Weekend is a coffee shop that serves the most aromatic coffee!
We were pleased to learn that the hotel has a full-service in-house spa, with a wide selection of treatment options, to include body massages and skincare for maximum rejuvenation. Go on a staycation and go back home with a youthful glow? Don’t mind if we do! NB. The spa has extended hours of operation from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm.
If you choose to indulge in some retail therapy while staying at The Joule, you can conveniently do so. Shopping options on site include The Hotel Shop by 4510/Six; contemporary designer boutique Traffic LA; Forty-Five Ten that sells decor and men and women’s clothing; and The Taschen Library bookshop.
Additional amenities on site are a 24-hour access fitness center and a rooftop swimming pool. It was the middle of winter when we stayed at The Joule; therefore, swimming was out of the question. However, we are looking forward to visiting again when the weather is warmer, so we can take on the much-talked-about pool experience.
There is a concierge service available to serve as a guide to guests as needed. They can arrange for a shuttle service to drive guests to locations within 5 miles of the hotel. They can also provide restaurant recommendations, and pretty much all guests need for a comfortable stay.
The Joule is also a special location to host events. The rooftop terrace, in particular, caught our eye, with its sweeping views of the Dallas skyline. We could envision how absolutely stunning a cocktail party or even a wedding reception would be there. We visited the Joule in the winter, so we can imagine the terrace is the spot to be in warmer weather.
Every member of staff that we encountered was friendly, making our overall hotel experience that much more pleasant. Of note, we placed one of our camera bags, complete with lenses in one of the hotel room drawers. Unfortunately, we forgot to take it with us upon checkout, and only realized two days later when we needed to use the equipment. We immediately called the hotel to inquire about our forgotten property. Much to our relief, the front desk staff informed us that our bag was safe and sound in their lost and found department and that it was available for pickup as soon as we could. Words can’t describe the extent of our gratitude! Long story short, if you ever forget your personal belongings at the property, rest your mind- The Joule has you covered!
