An Epic Miami Vacation at Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel!

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Disclosure: The Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel sponsored our stay; however, all views shared herein are genuine, our own, and are not influenced by any brand or being.

It’s that time of the year when we are on the cusp of Spring; however, it is still pretty cold in most parts of the country. As we are sure you are well aware, not all places are created equal. Some locales have the-dare we say-unfair advantage of being year-around, warm and inviting summer wonderlands. Miami, Florida falls under this category. It is a seventh heaven that makes for a perfect destination for winter bunnies trying to escape the tight grasp of bone-chilling frigid winter temperatures. As self-proclaimed members of the winter bunny escape committee, the decision to flee to the warm embrace of Miami’s sun rays was a no-brainer.

A fortnight ago, we embarked on what would be our first getaway of 2018, setting the wanderlust pace for the rest the year.  The travel itinerary had been months in the making, with every single detail of the trip planned with precision- we left nothing to chance. Finally, the highly anticipated day was upon us; our level of excitement was off the Richter Scale! We were ready for Miami, but was Miami ready for us?

Our flights from Dallas to Houston and then on to Miami were uneventful. In what seemed like a split second, we were tires to the tarmac and had landed at Miami International Airport. Much to our dismay, upon disembarking and making our way to the baggage claim area, we realized that one of our pieces of luggage was missing. Consulting with the airline staff to locate its whereabouts ate into our precious time; however, we were glad they were finally able to reunite us with our luggage.

Tip: Always retain the baggage ticket stab you are provided upon checking in your luggage. It makes for a seamless process in locating your luggage in the event that it is misplaced.

After what seemed like a decade, we exited the airport terminal and summoned an Uber. Faster than the blink of an eye, the car arrived and we were on our merry way. Due to intermittent traffic, it would take us approximately 30 minutes to navigate our way from the airport to the hotel. Thankfully, the scenic drive from the airport kept us occupied. We took in the enchanting Miami vibe, complete with an intriguing meshing of man-made architecture with mother nature’s fluidity represented by the ocean.

Collins Avenue in South Beach, Miami is one of the most popular spots in the city; therefore, imagine our excitement when we realized it was home to our hotel.  We bid the Uber driver adieu and stepped into greatness. We had arrived at what would be our residence for the next several days.

We pranced into the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel’s grand lobby and from the get-go, we were impressed by the bright, airy and inviting aura within. We walked towards the smiling faces of the hotel’s front desk staff, following which we were promptly checked in. As we rolled our luggage towards the elevator, eager to get to the room, we immersed ourselves in the mix of sights and sounds we encountered. The furniture was the perfect mix of artsy, rustic, unique and stylish.

We made our way to our room on the third floor. We were looking forward to getting settled in,  but even more so, we were excited about exploring the rest of the hotel. The view from the room overlooked the majestic and breathtakingly beautiful courtyard. In all our excitement, we forgot to take photos of the room; however, here is the link to the hotel’s gallery, where you can see a selection of photos of the rooms.

Our vacation had officially commenced! *cue salsa music*

We spent 4 days at the Kimpton Surfcomber, enjoying every last millisecond of the experience. We explored the ins and outs of the property, making full use of the host of amenities on site.As previously stated, we were smitten by the hotel’s courtyard which was reminiscent of a tropical paradise, complete with swaying palm trees and vibrant fauna.  The blending of modern day architecture, with nature in its purest form was quite endearing. The balconies reminded us of Santorini, Greece.  We absolutely loved the view from the top!

The courtyard led to the pool area which was a popular gathering spot. Rightfully so, given its fun and relaxing atmosphere, a testament to the never-ending summer party vibe of South Beach. Upbeat music filtered through speakers strategically positioned throughout the courtyard and surrounding area. One can tell that quite a bit of thought was put into creating an environment that fosters maximum relaxation.

The pool area had a sand-filled pit that gave off a welcome beachy vibe. We also loved the animal sculptures casually placed around the pool. There are cabanas on the upper and lower levels where you can among other relaxing activities, enjoy a spa session. The High Tide Bar, open from 11:00 am to 5: 00 pm daily, is the hotel’s poolside bar. They offer a wide selection of drinks including award-worthy cocktails.  They host a happy hour on Monday to Thursday from 3:00-5: 00 pm. The bar also has a selection of bites like tacos, wings, sandwiches and so much more.

Now that we are on the subject of beverages, here’s an additional exciting fact…

Dear wine lovers: you will be pleased to learn that there is a complimentary ‘Wine Hour’ every day from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. On offer is a fine selection of white and red wine. It’s a great way to unwind after a day of exploring Miami. The hotel also offers complimentary coffee, and a selection of flavorful teas every morning. Throughout the duration of our hotel stay, we kicked off our days with reflective moments by the tea and coffee bar.

One of our favorites aspects of the hotel is its close proximity to the beach. The ocean is literally a hop, step and a stone’s throw away from the pool area. Beachfront properties for the win! If you choose to spend some time on the beach soaking up the sun’s rays, the hotel can set you up with an umbrella, beach chair, and towels. Also available are cabanas by the beach- we opted for this instead. The cabana was pretty much an enclosed day bed, which allowed for perfect views of the ocean. The beach staff made every effort to ensure we enjoyed the cabana experience.

Feasting and merrymaking were high on our priority list during the course of our Surfcomber stay. We are not early morning breakfast people, therefore, we crowned brunch our official first meal of the day. The Social Club, conveniently located within the hotel, was our go-to for meals. We frequented it more times than we can count, primarily because of the delectable food. We highly recommend the Mahi Mahi tacos and yucca fries. We loved the meal enough to leave rave reviews on Google.  You know it is a great experience when we take the time to write a review. True story!  Let it be known that The Social Club also has some of the most amazing Mimosa’s we’ve had in this lifetime!

The food and drinks were mouth-watering good, but the icing on the cake was the staff members. Karen, Atila, and Alex went above and beyond to ensure that our experience was second to none. Alex even went the extra mile and provided us with Miami tour suggestions. Thanks, Alex! The staff’s genuinely friendly nature speaks to the positive culture at the Surfcomber. We were highly impressed.

The ambience at the Social Club lays the foundation for the creation of fond memories that will last a lifetime. Dining space is available indoors as well as on the terrace which overlooks the bustling Collins Avenue. We loved sitting outside, relishing every moment of our magical Miami experience.

After each meal at The Social Club, we were fully nourished and ready to take on the exciting task of exploring the Surfcomber property and beyond. Specific to one of our adventures, we made use of the complimentary bicycles offered to Surfcomber guests. Our goal- explore South Beach! Free bikes? Yes, please! We cycled off into the sunset, taking in all the sensory-stimulating sights and sounds from Collins Avenue to the renowned Ocean Drive.

There is so much to do at Surfcomber!  The hotel also doubles up as an event space. So if you’re looking for a location to host your next event, Surfcomber has you covered!  Imagine having your party or better yet, a wedding at this amazing property.

To add to the list of fun and festivities at Surfcomber…

On one of the days during our stay,  we noticed a bevy of happy people walking towards the pool area. Curious, we followed them, eager to find out what all the excitement was about. We were pleased to learn that Oceana- the world’s largest conservation organization- was on site to shed light on the importance of conserving our oceans. Besides spreading awareness, there was fun to be had, complete with a live band and food catered by The Social Club. We were honored to be a part of the socially conscious event.

We finally understand why there are so many catchy songs about Miami- it is a modern-day paradise! Our Miami vacation will forever be deeply ingrained in our memories. We foresee ourselves constantly recounting our unforgettable experience to anyone who will listen. Many thanks to Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel for being such a gracious host. We will definitely be back to visit.

  1. That hotel looks oh-mazing and I really enjoyed looking through your photos. I also like that an organization was there to spread awareness about ocean conservancy. I live on the coast of North Carolina and even the winter months aren’t warm enough for me, so I’ve considered being a snowbird and heading to Florida!
