As Dallas residents, driving to Pottsboro was our only travel option. Nonetheless, it was a welcome scenic drive through various small North Texas towns. All in all, we enjoyed the relatively short road trip experience.

Our Experience at Tanglewood resort

First Impression

Pulling up the winding driveway was a scenic sight in itself. It was like driving up to a grand mansion intertwined with the magnificence of nature! We identified a parking spot in close proximity to the main entrance and quickly made our way to the registration area.

For the most part, the resort’s check-in process was seamless. The professional staff at the front desk offered a great customer service experience. By and large, we were well on our way to our hotel room in record time.

Note that the resort has a 24-hour reception and multilingual staff on hand for guest assistance.

As we made our way through the property, we noticed that the interior of the resort was intentionally designed to resemble the interior of a ship. We found the nautical theme certainly intriguing.

The large windows in the hallways beautifully illuminated the space, allowing for spectacular sights of the resort’s grounds. The view of the pool area was particularly stunning.

Our Suite

We stayed in a King Lakeview Hotel Room that was undeniably beautiful. Our room offered a magnificent view of Lake Texoma at a distance, and the resort’s well-manicured grounds in close proximity. The room was spacious, bright, airy, and tastefully furnished. Additionally, we loved the clean lines and simple decor.

Just in case we were inclined to work while there, there was a grand desk available for use.

Restaurants at Tanglewood Resort

Tanglewood Resort has a variety of onsite restaurants, each one with unique menu options.

Tanglewood Bar and Grill

Formerly known as Barnacles Sports Bar and Grill, Tanglewood Bar and Grill can be referred to as the poolside lounge. It is an a la carte restaurant that offers lite bites and drinks. It is a great spot for lunch, dinner, as well as cocktails.

Lakeview Steakhouse

Lakeview Steakhouse is Tanglewood Resort’s very own steakhouse. Menu options include steak, seafood, fine wines, and more.

Our dining experience as we took in the beautiful views of Lake Texoma was certainly worth writing home about! Additionally, the ambiance was Queen Elizabeth posh; therefore, we expected the bill to be Waldorf Astoria expensive, but alas, it was all reasonably priced!

Note that due to the popularity of Lakeview Steakhouse, reservations are recommended.

Lakeside Lounge

Lakeside Lounge (formerly known as the Yacht Club)  is a lounge area where you can enjoy alcoholic beverages and unwind.

We loved the semi-casual retro vibe as well as the decor. It almost felt like we had stepped back into time, and expected Frank Sinatra to emerge from the woodwork and belt out one of his famous hits. We loved it!

Tower Whiskey Bar

The Tower Lounge, open on select evenings, is one of the highlights of the resort. It sits at a unique vantage point, offering panoramic birds-eye views of Lake Texoma. The Tower Lounge boasts a fully stocked bar with some of the best whiskey, and a DJ, or live music on select weekends.

19th Hole

The 19th Hole restaurant is located at Tanglewood’s golf course. On offer are cook-to-order menu items and a variety of beverages. At the present time, the restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch.

Tanglewood Resort Amenities

Tanglewood has a wide range of resort amenities on site. These cater to a wide variety of guests’ needs and preferences.

The Tower

As stated before, The Tower is one of the resort’s selling points. There is nothing quite like the unobstructed view of Lake Texoma from The Tower’s observation deck. You can purchase drinks from the Tower Whiskey bar as you enjoy the scenic aerial view sights.

Tanglewood Resort Spa

Tanglewood Resort’s Tranquility Spa and Salon is a full-service spa, available to all guests. However, note that additional charges will apply. The spa offers a variety of treatments and services including massages, facials, hair care, and more. You will also have access to the spa’s sauna.

Swimming Pools

Tanglewood Resort has 3 outdoor pools, and a hot tub accessible to all hotel guests. The outdoor pool that we frequented most was the one by Tanglewood Bar and Grill. In addition to dips in the pool, highlights of our casual pool-side experience were easy to access to quick bites and drinks, as well as catchy tunes by a local DJ.

Note that Tanglewood Resort pool hours are season and weather permitting.

Fitness Center

If you feel inclined to get a workout in during your Tanglewood getaway, you will have access to the resort’s onsite fitness center. It is a fully equipped gym available for use by all Tanglewood guests.

Conference Facilities, Meeting Rooms, and Event Spaces

Tanglewood Resort is a perfect place for a dreamy event. Given the stunning natural backdrops, it can make for a perfect setting for weddings, social events, and more.

Additionally, Tanglewood has excellent meeting facilities for everything from small meetings to large conferences. The state-of-the-art meeting space offers several thousand square feet of  business center and conference facilities. The space is versatile and can accommodate a variety of business events.

Things To Do Near Tanglewood Resort

Notably, Tanglewood is in close proximity to a variety of local attractions. We made a brief trip to the nearby Choctaw Casino in Durant, OK. All in all, it was a quick 30-minute road trip that allowed us to see more of what the region has to offer.  The following are additional things to do in the area:

Final Thoughts About Tanglewood Resort

To summarize, we had an exciting and memorable experience at Tanglewood Resort. We loved everything from the onsite amenities, the qualified staff, the spectacular views of Lake Texoma, as well as the sumptuous meals at the onsite restaurants.  With this in mind, we would certainly love to visit again.

To conclude, Tanglewood’s convenient location is a close enough drive from major cities like Dallas, TX, and Durant, OK. Furthermore, it is far enough that you can detach from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. As has been noted, there is nothing quite like the tranquil Texas setting of Tanglewood Resort.
