ToggleBest Hotels In Dallas: Adolphus Hotel History
Dallas is rich in history, with The Adolphus being one such historical landmark. As a matter of fact, it is the oldest building in the city of Dallas. What’s more, The Adolphus was Dallas’ first luxury hotel.
The city has changed significantly since the twentieth century; however, certain aspects of its bygone days have been left largely unaltered.
The building which houses The Adolphus Hotel was built in 1912 and was modeled after a Beaux-Arts German castle. Given the fact that the hotel is over 100 years old, over time it has been renovated and updated to include modern amenities. Be that as it may, it has not lost its old-school charm.

Our Experience at The Adolphus Hotel
We pulled up to Commerce Street in downtown Dallas, bursting at the seams with anticipation as we approached The Adolphus. Upon arrival at the grand hotel, the friendly valet staff provided assistance with offloading our luggage. They promptly whisked our car to what would be its storage space while we were guests at the hotel.
We made our way to the hotel lobby to a warm welcome by the front desk staff. Much to our surprise, despite arriving early, our hotel room was available for immediate occupancy. Faster than the speed of light, we were off to the elevators, luggage in tow. We were eager to see what would be our luxurious abode for the weekend.
Our Adolphus Hotel Suite
We stayed in one of the hotel’s luxurious Executive Suites. We were particularly drawn to the modern styling and light-capturing floor-to-ceiling windows. Additionally, the high ceilings made the space look even larger.
Also in the room was a work desk that came in handy, especially given the free Wi-Fi.
Our suite was perfectly positioned as a vantage point overlooking the hotel’s outdoor pool.
Adolphus Hotel Guest Rooms and Suites
The Adolphus has an impressive selection of comfortable guestrooms and unique concept suites. They include the following options.
.Deluxe Rooms: These are standard-size hotel rooms with king-size beds, beautiful decor, as well as stunning furnishings. Each elegant guest room includes a flat-screen TV and more.
Executive Suites: These are larger in size than the Deluxe Rooms. In addition to the gorgeous aesthetics, they feature a sitting area, and either one or two king beds.
Luxury Suites: These are the upper echelons of hotel accommodation, boasting luxuriously furnished one as well as two-bedroom suites.
Adolphus Hotel Restaurants and Bars
The hotel has an impressive selection of onsite dining options, offering a wide array of mouth-watering menu items. The following are the dining and bar options at the hotel.
City Bistro at The Adolphus
We enjoyed a delectable brunch at City Hall Bistro, with a spectacular view of the downtown skyline to boot.
Fun Fact: City Hall Bistro is so named because it is located at the original site intended for City Hall.
The French Room at The Adolphus
For fine dining at The Adolphus, The French Room specializing in ( you guessed it) French cuisine, is the place to be. Note that the restaurant requires reservations, so plan accordingly.
As we waited for our reservation time slot, we relaxed at the French Room Salon seating area. It was magnificently styled with key art pieces, ultimately giving off an otherworldly vibe. Later, as we moved over to the dining area, we were equally impressed by how regal the dining area is.
Menu price points at The French Room are slightly more high-end than other dining options at the hotel. However, the food is well worth the price.
Tip: The French Room also has a bar area, perfect for before or after dinner mingling.
Ottos Coffee Shop at The Adolphus
Also on site is Ottos, a coffee shop that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and light fare.
Rodeo Bar
The Rodeo Bar offers snacks, light bites, and a variety of beverages such as craft beer, bottled beer, cocktails, and more. Happy hour is every Monday through Friday from 4 PM- 6 PM.
City Hall Bar
The City Hall Bar is in the hotel’s lobby area. On offer are coffee and lite bites by day, as well as cocktails, fine wine, and craft beer by night.
The Adolphus Rooftop Pool Cafe
There is also an option to dine at the Rooftop pool café. They have a great selection of sips like craft cocktails and lite bites.
Amenities at The Adolphus
Adolphus Hotel Spa
What is a staycation or vacation without rest and rejuvenation, right? We knew we had to experience Spa Adolphus the moment we heard about it. Therefore, we carved out a few hours of our staycation time for rest and relaxation at the hotel’s renowned spa.
We enjoyed an 80-minute massage that left us more relaxed than we had been in a while. The massage experience was invigorating and just what we needed. We were surprised by how much tension we had been carrying around. Releasing it via a massage was a great form of self-care for us.
It is a full-service spa that has quite a number of massages to choose from including: therapeutic, prenatal, and hot stone aromatherapy. Additional services offered at the spa are body scrubs, manicures, and pedicures.
After the massage, we dove even further into the deep end of zen at what is referred to as the Relaxation Room. It is the perfect place to relax, complete with an outdoor patio offering sweeping views of Dallas. The spa also has a salon, offers facials and nail services, and has a private event room available for rent.
Fun Fact: We were informed that bridal parties have been known to rent out the event space and enjoy the spa’s amenities.
Adolphus Hotel Barber Shop
The hotel has an onsite barbershop, conveniently located in the lobby. There was nothing quite like getting groomed and dapper right at the hotel. We can’t think of anything better!
Adolphus Hotel Outdoor Pool
The outdoor swimming pool is open daily from 6 AM- 12 AM, daily (weather and seasons permitting). You can relax at the poolside cabanas in between dips into the pool. Additionally, you can dine on lite bites from the poolside cafe. The Adolphus Hotel is without a doubt a Dallas summer staple, with loads of fun, food, drinks to enjoy.
Adolphus Hotel Fitness Center
The hotel’s fitness center is located on the 7th floor of the hotel. The fitness room is equipped with cardio machines and strength training equipment, yoga mats, and more. It is the perfect place to keep up with your fitness regimen, even when away from home.

Adolphus Hotel Parking
In general, downtown Dallas parking can be quite a hassle. Given that The Adolphus is located slap bang in the heart of downtown Dallas, we recommend paying for the hotel’s valet service. This is both for the convenience and the peace of mind knowing you don’t have to worry about parking. Note that they have a daily valet rate, with- in and out privileges.
